The land and who runs it

Dakota Dunes Casino opened in August 2007 on Whitecap Dakota First Nation, on traditional Whitecap Dakota Territory near Saskatoon. The building stands at the height of the South Saskatchewan River Valley Basin. Its award-winning design echoes the rolling hills, wild grass and dunes of the region.

SIGA runs seven casinos across Saskatchewan, and this is one of them; the initials stand for Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority. Founded in 1995, SIGA calls itself a non-profit First Nations organization putting all of its net proceeds back into Saskatchewan. The net profits of those seven casinos are split among three recipients. The First Nations Trust gets 50%, the Saskatchewan government's General Revenue Fund 25% and Community Development Corporations 25%.

    Nineteen and over

Saskatchewan sets 19 as the legal age for gambling, and the casino lets in only guests aged 19 or older. Every event sold at the box office is 19+ as well. Tickets are sold at Guest Services and online through SIGABoxOffice, and all sales are final. SIGA casinos treat anyone younger than 19 as a prohibited individual, along with anyone excluded or self-excluded. A prohibited individual cannot receive winnings.

    Online gambling in Saskatchewan

SIGA runs PlayNow.com, Saskatchewan's sole lawful online gambling site, which accepts players 19 and up. Its provincial launch came in November 2022. Private online casinos cannot obtain a licence in Saskatchewan, and the provincial government labels PlayNow's competitors illegal platforms.

Each paid link here is marked Ad and opens one such private site, which pays this guide commission. They sit on the home page only, and the partner at the other end can be swapped. The partner site has no Saskatchewan licence and no connection to any of the province's casinos. Neither Game Break nor SIGA Voluntary Self-Exclusion blocks private online sites.
